How our association brings hope and help to those in need

A Small Act of Giving, a Larger Act of Grace

There is something quietly powerful about watching a community come together — not just to celebrate but to genuinely look out for one another.

For those who may not know us, the Sutton Bengali Association is a community-driven organisation built on a simple but deeply felt idea: that Bengalis living in Sutton and beyond deserve a home away from home . We celebrate our culture through festivals, music, dance, and food. We keep our traditions alive for the next generation. But just as importantly, we believe in giving back to the community that has welcomed us.

We are proud of every event we host, but our charitable initiatives hold a very special place in our hearts.

Recognised by Our Community's Leaders

We at SBA were genuinely moved when, last year and earlier this year, a small group of us from SBA were invited to visit the Houses of Parliament by Luke Taylor, the MP for Sutton and Cheam. It was a proud and humbling moment — a recognition that the work we do here in Sutton, the festivals we organise, the food we collect, the community we build, has not gone unnoticed .

The Sutton Bengali Association (SBA) was proud to partner with Cancer Research UK at our Annual Picnic, held at Nonsuch Park on 12th July 2026.

As part of the event, our members and attendees generously donated pre-loved clothing in support of Cancer Research UK, helping to raise vital funds for life-saving cancer research while promoting sustainability through the reuse of textiles.

The Annual Picnic has always been about bringing our community together, and this year's partnership with Cancer Research UK added a meaningful charitable dimension to the event. We are grateful to everyone who contributed donations, volunteered their time, and helped make the clothes drive a success.

We sincerely thank Cancer Research UK, Cheam, for their partnership, and all our volunteers, donors, and supporters for making this initiative a great success. Together, we demonstrated how community spirit can make a meaningful difference.

We look forward to supporting more charitable initiatives in the future.

Giving Back Through Our Biggest Celebrations

At our Naboborsho 2026 celebrations on the 18th of April at the Thomas Wall Centre in Sutton, we ran a Food Donation Drive in collaboration with the Sutton Food Bank . Alongside the cultural performances, the kids' sit-and-draw competition, the Bengali food stalls, and the best-dressed couple and child contest, our members and guests were invited to donate essential, long-life food items to support local families and individuals facing hardship.

Pohela Boishakh, the Bengali New Year, is traditionally a time of new beginnings, of letting go of past sorrows and welcoming the year with hope . What better way to honour that spirit than by extending support to people in our community?
